Zoonoses and One Medicine practice, the example of Lyme disease

Further to last weeks' publication on this zoonotic disease, Professor Hany Elsheikha, Associate Professor of Veterinary Parasitology at the University of Nottingham, reinforced the importance of collaborative efforts amongst human and animal health professionals:

"Lyme disease is maintained in ticks and wildlife reservoirs and is increasingly recognized as a significant cause of illness in people and companion animals. Better understanding and management of Lyme disease is thus a good example of putting the One Medicine concept into practice due to the interdependence between human health and animal health."
